Welcome back from the Principal

Welcome back to school for 2018.

We are looking forward to an exciting and successful year at VUSC this year. I spoke to the students at their first assembly about making the most of their talents and doing their best throughout the year to achieve success. Last year our results again improved and I fully expect that we will continue to see better and better results from our students.

I am pleased to announce the College Captains and Junior Campus Captains and Vice Captains for 2018

Open House

I extend a warm invitation to Grade 5 and 6 students and their families to come to our Open House on Tuesday 20th March at 6.00pm. Our transition staff will be visiting local primary schools in the weeks leading up to the Open House to distribute information and applications for Year 7 scholarships and our specialist AVID program. On the evening you will enjoy interactive tours in our open classrooms, learn about our diverse and engaging programs, and have your questions answered by our team of Principals and teachers. We look forward to seeing you there.

Continuous Reporting

This year we are moving to continuous reporting through the Compass system. All common assessment tasks for each unit in the school will be published on class Compass pages by 16th February. These tasks will include the due dates so students (and their parents if need be!) can track upcoming assessments and make sure they are handing in everything on time. Final grades for each assignment or test will be published within two weeks of the submission date. Every student in Year 7-10 will have at least one piece of assessment due by 8th March, which means you will be able to see at least one grade for each subject by 22nd March. Grades for our first Binder organisation check will also be up from 26th February.

We are hoping that this new system will enable students and parents to keep on track of academic progress and address any problems early in the year so everyone achieves to their highest aspirations. If you have any technical difficulties or notice information missing from Compass please let us know so that we can follow it up.

Important Dates

We hope to see all Year 7 and 12 parents at these meetings. Please make a note of them in your diaries:

School Council Election – Parent Nominations Now Open

If you are an enthusiastic parent interested in getting more involved and having a say in what our school is doing, or know someone who is, we would love to hear from you. We are looking for people who are committed to improving the educational outcomes for all our students.

Effective councils have a broad range of experience, skills and expertise. Face-to-face and online training is also available to help councillors develop the skills and knowledge for the job. Parents find their involvement satisfying and may also find that their children feel a greater sense of belonging.

For more information on what’s involved, see: www.education.vic.gov.au/school/parents/involve/Pages/parent.aspx.

The College Board meets on two Wednesday evenings per term and memberships are for two years. There are five parent vacancies open for nomination with a term of office from 14th March 2018 to 14th March 2020.

Nomination forms may be downloaded from Compass or obtained from the office at each campus. All nominations must be lodged at your campus general office by 4.00pm on Friday 16th February 2018.

If you would like to find out more about the College Board, please contact a member of the Principal team on 9363 1155 or 8312 0200.

Cheers,
