WINNER! Victorian School Sports Award 2013

On Tuesday 23rd April, Mr Marshall, Mr Miller and I attended the Victorian School Sports Awards at the MCG. Our college was one of only three schools across the state to be awarded the Outstanding School and Community Partnership Award. We were presented with this award, by the Minister for Education, for the work the staff in our PE department have done in creating partnerships with local sporting clubs and primary schools, Brimbank Council, Melbourne Storm, Netball Victoria and School Sports Victoria. Through these partnerships our students have participated in the Sport Leadership Program and the Rugby Academy Program.

The Sport Leadership Program involves students working in local primary schools, teaching leadership skills to the older primary students and providing them with the skills to become ‘Physical Activity Leaders’ within their schools. In doing this our students also develop their own leadership skills. Student involved in the Rugby Academy Program spend many hours training and honing their skills under the guidance of our own staff and Melbourne Storm players and coaches. I’d like to acknowledge the huge amount of work that Josh Miller and Hamish Pearce put in with the Rugby Program; I’d also like to commend Dale Marshall for his leadership of the sports academy staff and thank Shaun Faulkhead, Rocco Giovanniello and Rebecca Hogarth for their commitment to our young sportsmen and women. Well done team on winning such a well-deserved award!

China Study Tour Presentation

Congratulations to the twelve VUSC students who attended the MCG on Friday 8th March to do a presentation of their learning from the China study tour last year.

The presentation to Minister Dixon and other study tour groups was conducted very professionally by the students as they spoke about their experiences, showed a video presentation of the places they visited and even included a Kung Fu demonstration which they learned while in China.

These students are now undertaking a community project through which they will share their learning with others in the community. Well done from everyone at VUSC - you made us proud!!
