Gold Shield Winners and Annual Concert

What an amazing month it has been for the students of the VUSC Music Department!

The dedication, teamwork and musicianship has really paid off for the students and staff involved.

Annual Music Concert

On Thursday 24th August over 100 music students and staff converged on the wonderful Brimbank Salvation Army Hall in Sydenham for the Annual VUSC Music Concert. The students from Years 7 to 12 performed in front of a packed house of the wider school community to rapturous applause.

The program included: Massed Band of VUSC, Honours Band, Year 7 and Year 8/9 Concert Bands, Year 11 Rock Bands – Tomorrow’s Friday and Girl Next door and the VCE Rock Band, VUSC Big Band and solo performers Jasmine Caguiat (Piano), Diego Sanchez (Guitar), Kevin Lam (Voice) and Taumei Hogben (Electric Bass).

Thank you to the staff and families for your support, not only with attending this concert, but also helping to pack up on the night.

A massive congratulations to all wonderful young musicians involved!

Victorian School Music Festival

Across both Thursdays in weeks 5 and 6 of this term we had the Combined Year 8 and 9 Concert Band and VUSC Big Band perform and compete at the Victorian Schools Music Festival (VSMF).

The students of the Concert Band travelled to Geelong to give an outstanding performance of their three works: Into the Unknown, Migaloo and Mar Y Cielo.

A huge congratulations to the Concert Band students for being awarded the Gold Shield for their brilliant performance!

The 17 students from Year 8 to 10 in the VUSC Big Band travelled to the Hawthorn Arts Centre to perform not only for their first time at the VSMF, but also for the first time in public since forming mid last year. The Big Band performed: Hogs Breath Café, If I Gave my Heart and Jump to It and were also awarded a Gold Shield for what was a very memorable performance by all!

Across both events the students’ respect of the other performances, wearing of the school uniform with pride and looking after each other was of the highest order and something we all can be proud of.

Congratulations to all!
